Frequently Asked Questions

How does Dotjamr work?

You write your message in your browser and choose an expiry time. Dotjamr encrypts it and creates either a secure one time link or a short keyword to share separately. When the recipient accesses the message successfully, it is permanently deleted.

What is Link mode?

In Link mode, the full decryption key is included in the link you share. The recipient simply opens the link to read the message. After it is opened once, the message is deleted.

What is Keyword mode?

In Keyword mode, the decryption key is not included in the link. Instead, you share a short keyword separately. The recipient opens the link and enters the keyword to unlock the message. This keeps the key out of the URL and allows you to share it over a different channel.

Is my message encrypted?

Yes. Your message is encrypted in your browser before it is sent to the server. Dotjamr stores only encrypted text. Decryption happens in the recipient’s browser using either the key in the link or the keyword you shared.

Can Dotjamr read my message?

No. Dotjamr does not receive the readable message or the decryption key. Without the key or keyword, the stored data cannot be decrypted.

What does one time access mean?

The message can be successfully opened once. As soon as it is revealed, it is deleted from the server. Any further attempts to access it will show that it is no longer available.

What happens if the link expires?

If the message is not opened before the expiry time you selected, it is automatically deleted. Expired messages cannot be recovered.

Do I need an account?

No account is required. There is no inbox and no message history. You create a secure message, share access, and it disappears after use.
